Digital Resource Solutions

Our Services – Confidence is Key

We do it right the first time!
As part of a drill program, DRS will create the foundation of a trustworthy core base from which you will be able to efficiently perform lab analyses, and geological or petrophysical modeling.  DRS is leading the field in digital core analysis, and has been in business since 2004 working to integrate your information into a comprehensive dataset.  We continue to uphold our top notch standards and to create new ideas to offer our clients.

DRS also recognizes the importance of re-evaluating existing databases for future exploration. As part of an historical project, DRS can refine a wide variety of existing data, updating and standardizing your database. The result: a collection of data you can use to make confident projections.

Unification: Combining technology with a critical eye:
The DRS quantification process is performed digitally at very high resolution, but is not automated, maintaining human interpretation to account for natural variations. By providing critical assessment of digitization, products can be delivered quickly and at the highest quality.

DRS has developed proprietary software which digitally quantifies shale volume versus sand volume using core photographs. Honoring the natural lithology of oil sands core is part of the standard DRS procedure; however, clients sometimes wish to group certain occurrences as either sand or shale based on their modeling requirements.

Core is depth corrected by correlating the DRS Volume of Shale (VShale) curve with wireline logs. Core and VShale are shifted using marker intervals to align the core and its data correctly, with lost core intervals included where necessary. Lab samples and facies flags are depth corrected along with the core to maintain integrity and continuity within your database.

Our Services Include:

Drilling Integration:
One of our most popular services is to deliver timely, accurate depth correction data during the core analysis process, concurrent to drilling delineation programs. DRS will deliver the results to laboratories before core analysis takes place. This simplified process ensures all modeling inputs from wireline data, to core analysis data and the DRS VShale are all matched perfectly. It also saves a core logging team hours of manual depth correction. We have an excellent working relationship with the major Calgary based laboratories. DRS can also provide secure FTP storage to facilitate your project data exchange requirements.

Database Standardization:
DRS will process an entire database of historical wells to reconcile different generations of core into a trustworthy database. Previous landowners or operators often do not effectively depth correct cores, leaving laboratory and logging results in question. Different generations of logging tools may provide incompatible datasets or misleading calculations. DRS will process all wells within the same parameters, providing a standardized database ready for modeling. All important datasets will be incorporated.

Reservoir Characterization:
Using extremely high resolution software, DRS will quantify unique phases of your reservoir to deliver reliable Net to Gross numbers, standardized facies interpretations, or tight gas fluorescent quantification. We provide an unbiased look at the reservoir in an easily used .las file format. Our analysis is far less expensive than a single logging run and has immediate applicability to geological modeling and reservoir engineering.

Modeling Inputs:
Oil sand net pay models, flow simulation models and geological block models all require geological inputs relevant to the sub-surface. VShale or Volume of Shale is vitally important for facies determination and permeability calculations. In tight oil reservoirs, we are pioneering digital host rock analysis to identify far more realistic net pay calculations. We have developed a unique Mud Quality Index routine to identify permeability variations within IHS mudstones. Please let us know what your reservoir challenges are and we look forward to developing creative solutions to help!

Photography:
For research into publicly available wells, or as part of a specialty project, DRS provides either standard white light or fluorescent light photography, complete as a set of digital images ready for your records.
